About
Thumbprint started as a sketch—a faster way to spec furniture and get out of the weeds. What if lead times were centralized? What if typicals could be priced in minutes? I had to know the answer.

Two years later, Thumbprint is a venture-funded startup with manufacturer partners, users and a point of view.

What moves us forward isn’t just the idea—it’s the people. The ones who share our urgency to make the furniture process simpler, faster, and more joyful. If that’s you, let’s build together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the vision of Thumbprint?

The vision of Thumbprint Furniture is to create intuitive software that streamlines the upfront decision making process of selling furniture.

When is the full version of the platform launching?

We are launching the first, full version of the platform this June at NeoCon/Design Days. See you in Chicago!

Are additional manufacturers joining the platform? Can I make recommendations?

Yes and yes! We currently have over two dozen more manufacturers in the pipeline and are starting conversations with many more. As their data goes through the standardization process, they will go live on the platform. Please continue to stay tuned for updates. We absolutely want to know which manufacturers are top of mind for you. Please email your suggestions to: hello@thumbprintfurniture.com

Are any of the major manufacturers joining?

We are currently in discussions with many of them and are optimistic they will join the platform. It’s possible you will see some of their open line, satellite brands on the platform first.

How do I join as a manufacturer? What information is needed?

Email Please submit a contact inquiry at hello@thumbprintfurniture.com and we can walk you through our onboarding process. We require product data, high resolution finish images, textile grade mapping and 3D models. Our process is highly automated and we take care of the heavy lifting.

Who is Thumbprint for?

Thumbprint is a win-win-win solution for designers, dealers and manufacturers/reps. Each group can design, specify and manage furniture packages on the platform and work independently or as a project team. Additionally, Thumbprint can be used by the commercial real estate community for accurate interior test fits.

Why are you using AI and what does it do?

We use AI and machine learning to take the busywork out of the furniture layout process—so you can focus on design, not drudgery. Specifically, Thumbprint's AI models are trained on a large set of annotated commercial floor plans.

They can:

- Read 2D floorplans (from image files like JPG or PNG) and automatically detect doors, windows, room boundaries, and millwork
- Generate walking paths and identify usable zones based on clearances and circulation needs
- Suggest furniture layouts using heuristics and optimization algorithms that consider product constraints like style, budget, lead time, and spacing

In addition to our layout engine, we offer:

- Thumbprint Spark: Our fast ideation tool that generates an instant single-room module for inspiration
- AI Renderings: A visual storytelling engine that places your selected furniture into beautiful, branded backgrounds—complete with accessories and context—for client-ready images in seconds

We combine AI with smart rules and deep furniture knowledge to make the process feel intuitive and fun—without losing accuracy or control.

How can I access the BOM?

You can download your both as both an Excel file and a SIF (beta).

Can I place orders through Thumbprint?

Not at this time. However, we would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Does Thumbprint include items other than furniture? What about demountable walls, acoustic panels or carpet?

Not at this time. However, we are actively exploring this and would love your feedback.

Is there any training or support available for new users to understand how to use Thumbprint?

Our software is easy to use, but if you would like a deep dive, please contact us at hello@thumbprintfurniture.com and a member of our team will connect with you. We offer one-hour sessions or custom sessions for groups. We also have tutorials for async training.

Are there any limitations on the size or type of projects Thumbprint can handle?

We recommend that uploaded floorplans be under 2MB for optimal performance (we support up to 2.5MB, but speed will degrade). Larger files or highly dense plans may be supported in future updates.

How are spatial considerations addressed by the platform?

Our algorithms have appropriately sized walking paths and door swing clearances built in so furniture is only placed in appropriate areas. For example, we default to a 4-ft clearance path throughout the layout. That’s why marking doorways clearly in your upload is important—our system needs them to calculate traffic flow and access. Algorithms are never perfect and it is important that users verify building elements, furniture placement, and other essential spatial considerations at every step of the journey. Additionally, it is important to verify site conditions and field measurements prior to order entry.

How does Thumbprint address power, data, and wire management?

While we don't yet analyze power on floorplans, we partner with manufacturers who provide us with power-ready typicals. Only furniture configurations with appropriate power and data routing are shown in the layout engine. However, users should always verify exact needs with the manufacturer before ordering.

How is lead time calculated?

During the first phase of beta testing, lead time data is not available. However, during the beta window, lead time information will become available for each manufacturer. Our lead times include the manufacturer’s production lead time for that specific item plus a 2-week buffer for transit and receiving.

What additional file types do you accept and output?

Accepted file types for input: JPG or PNG floorplans (partition plans)
Coming soon: CAD (DWG/DXF)PDF

Current outputs: Tagged layout with scale bar (PDF)Spec sheets (PDF)Lookbook / presentation views (PDF)Bill of Materials (Excel, PDF coming soon)SIF files for order processing

What is Thumbprint's pricing?

Our pricing options can be found on our pricing page.

Will my data or layouts be viewable by other users?

No. All data will be password protected and not accessible by other users.

Does Thumbprint connect to other software or platforms?

Not yet—but it’s on our roadmap.

We plan to connect with tools across the furniture workflow: design (like AutoCAD and Revit), deep configuration (like CET), visualization (like Yulio or Twinmotion), and social media and creative tools (like Instagram, Canva, and Google Drive).

For now, Thumbprint is a standalone system—but a powerful one. If there’s a specific integration you care about, we’d love to hear from you.

How can I provide feedback or suggest new features?

We love hearing from our users! Please submit a contact form at the bottom of this page and we can schedule time to connect!

Is Thumbprint compatible with all devices and operating systems?

Thumbprint works best on laptops or desktops using Google Chrome, but it also supports: Google Chrome, Safari, Edge / Internet Explorer (latest versions), and iPad browsers—for on-the-go layout review and lightweight editing.

'We’re committed to expanding mobile/tablet optimization in future releases.
